According to vocalist Alice Glass, the song "is about human taxidermy, the idea of preserving the beauty of a lover the way you would an animal".

"Courtship Dating" was received positively by critics, with NME describing it as "synth-pop filled up with muted screams, jerking bass and sparking circuit boards" and "the best piece of humanity-loathing cyborg pop since The Knife's Silent Shout".

The track, "Insectica (CC vs Lo-Bat Version)", uses clips chopped out of a song by Lo-bat called "My Little Droid Needs a Hand", released under a Creative Commons license.

Another track called "Love and Caring", samples the kick and snare from Covox's "Sunday".

In late 2010, the band issued the non-album single Not In Love which featured Robert Smith of The Cure on vocals.

The band toured throughout 2010 in the US and abroad and played the Reading and Leeds Festivals and Glastonbury Festival in the UK and Big Day Out in Australia.

"Courtship Dating" was the first single on the debut album by Ontario music group Crystal Castles.

The single was released on March 31, 2008 although the song had leaked in 2006.

In February 2011, the band will perform on the NME Awards Tour The band's third album, (III) was released on November 21, 2012.
